The Department of Energy (DOE), National EnergyTechnology Laboratory (NETL) isseeking applications for the University Coal Research (UCR) Program. Sinceitsinception in FiscalYear1980 (by congressional direction), the UCR Programhasendeavored to maintain and upgrade the educational, training, and researchcapabilities of U.S. colleges and universities in the field of coal scienceandtechnology. The academic environment is well suited to fundamentalresearch ofhigh payoff potential. The involvement of professors and students will beconducive to the generation of fresh ideas and, as the secondary purpose ofthis program, will ensure a future supply of U.S. coal scientists andtechnologists. Through Program Solicitation DE-PS26-05NT42244, theDepartmentof Energy?s Office of Fossil Energy (FE) and the National Energy TechnologyLaboratory are seeking applications with the potential to overcome barriersintechnology development and accelerate the identification of solutions forenergy and environmental problems. Proposed research should contemplatenearlytotal carbon closure by the year 2015 along with substantial increases inenergy conversion efficiency.Statutory authority for the UCR Program is provided by Public Law 95-224,asamended by 97-258.
